Sometimes the biggest battles aren’t with the world around us—they’re with ourselves. God has a way of stepping in and protecting us from the choices we would’ve made that could’ve destroyed our peace, our future, or even our lives. That protection isn’t always loud, but it’s powerful, and looking back, you realize just how many times He saved you from you. We’ve all had moments where we were about to settle for less, chase after the wrong person, or make a move that didn’t serve our purpose. In those moments, God blocked it, not because He wanted to punish us, but because He knew we deserved better. The beauty of His protection is that it doesn’t always feel like protection at first—it might feel like rejection, but in reality, it’s a rescue. You’re not always in controlThank You Terri BakerThere’s a deep peace in realizing you’re not always in control. When God protects you from yourself, He shields you from decisions made in anger, heartbreak, or desperation. He sees what’s ahead when all we can see is the moment, and His mercy fills in the gaps where our wisdom falls short. Think about the times you wanted that relationship to work so badly, but it fell apart anyway. At first, it stings, but later you realize that losing it saved you from more pain, wasted years, or heartbreak you weren’t built to handle. That’s not loss—it’s God stepping in to redirect you toward something healthier, stronger, and aligned with His plan. God knows when to close doorsEven with friendships or environments, God knows when to close doors. Sometimes the crowd you wanted to run with was the very crowd that would’ve held you back, or worse, dragged you down. What felt like loneliness was really protection, and what felt like being overlooked was actually being placed in position for something greater.
The truth is, we don’t always know what’s best for us. We see short-term satisfaction, but God sees the long-term impact, and He chooses to intervene when we’re about to make choices that would damage our growth. That’s love on the highest level—saving us even when we don’t realize we need saving. Thanking God for protecting you from you is about recognizing His grace. It’s about acknowledging that even your mistakes, your almosts, and your bad decisions can be turned into lessons instead of life sentences. He doesn’t just save us from others—He saves us from the parts of ourselves that haven’t healed yet. And that’s why gratitude runs so deep. When you know you’ve been spared from paths you would’ve chosen, your whole perspective shifts—you begin to trust God’s “no” as much as His “yes.” Because sometimes the best blessing you can receive is the one you never got to touch.
