When Craggy opens his track Straight Lying with the solemn words, “Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?” — it doesn’t feel like just another rap intro. It feels like a trial, and the jury is hip hop itself. From the start, he places rappers under oath, demanding honesty where lies have become too common.

The hook hits hard: “Boy you know these brothers straight lying, know these young brothers hate dying.” It’s a gut-punch line that speaks to the false bravado in rap culture, where too many front like they’re invincible, but deep down fear the very death they glorify. Craggy isn’t just calling them out; he’s exposing the contradiction.

But the second verse is where the song takes a holy turn. Speaking as if God Himself is addressing the rap game, Craggy unleashes lines like, “You speak the language of Satan… I had to go kill a demon, you had to focus on me then you run like a zebra, you remind me of Peter but don’t act like you got amnesia.”

This is more than wordplay — it’s scripture in motion. When Jesus rebuked Peter in Matthew 16:23, He said: “Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.” Craggy uses this same spiritual rebuke, flipping it toward rappers who glorify darkness in their lyrics.

Straight Lying

Then comes the “amnesia” bar — a haunting echo of Peter’s denial of Christ. Luke 22:61–62 tells us, “And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord… And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.” By referencing Peter’s denial, Craggy shows how easy it is for rappers to deny Christ with their lifestyles and lyrics, forgetting who gives them breath and platform in the first place.

Straight Lying isn’t just a rap track — it’s a rebuke, a wake-up call, and a reminder that truth matters. Craggy reminds us that denying Jesus, whether with words or actions, comes with spiritual weight. And just like Peter, repentance is possible — but only if we stop lying and face the truth head-on.
